Getting started
Your first study, from install to your own part
Five steps for a first-time user. The solved example does most of the explaining.
Install Laminaro
Close Inventor, run the installer from the Download page, and let it finish. It sets up the add-in and the solver, and ends with a small test simulation.
Then open Inventor and a part. You'll find the LaminaroCFD tab in the ribbon.
Run without a key; sign up for the AI
The beta needs no licence key: open an example or your own part and run.
- Want the AI features? In Settings › Licence, sign up for the free beta with your email address. You get the CFD Tutor, AI Checks and written reports up to USD 3 of AI use; no card needed.
More in Licence help.
Open a solved example
Click Explore LaminaroCFD › Examples and open Water through a pipe bend. It opens already solved, with a guided tour of 7 stops through the real windows.
Look at 6 Post-processing › Check: the pressure drop of 872 Pa, Kv 151 m³/h and Cv 174, the ± on each number and the verdict Good enough for engineering use. Then try Explore: turn the view, move the cut, switch on streamlines.
Do a Quick look
In 5 Run, start a Quick look: a coarse, short run that shows whether the set-up is right before you wait for a full one. It catches the common first-study mistakes, like a fluid region that leaks or an inlet on the wrong face.
If something is wrong, the message says what and where. Ask the CFD Tutor in the ribbon if it isn't clear.
Now your own part
Open your part and click New study. Answer "What do you want to model?", then follow the steps from 1 to 6. Each one ticks green when it's done.
- Flow inside the part (a duct, a manifold, a valve body): pick the body that is the fluid in 1 Geometry. If the part has no fluid body yet, model one in Inventor first.
- Flow around the part (drag, wind load): Laminaro builds the air around it.
- Start on the Standard mesh, run a Quick look, then the real run. Read the verdict and the AI review before you trust a number.
- Make the report from 6 Post-processing › Report: PDF, Word or PowerPoint.
